ÖBB has introduced new night trains: the new generation of Nightjets. These offer compartment types such as the “Mini Cabin” and numerous technical changes. The trains are due to start running in Germany as early as December. There are many benefits from taking the train. From being cheaper to environmentally friendlier to having a good connection to enjoy 22Bet. But how does it look like taking one of the many many night trains in Europe?
The “new generation Nightjet” made its maiden voyage through Austria in mid-November. The new train model of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) is scheduled to run on the Vienna – Hamburg and Innsbruck – Hamburg lines from December 10, 2023. The Vienna – Bregenz line within Austria will be added in 2024, as announced by ÖBB in a press release.
New Öbb Trains Cost Over 700 Million Euros
The new-generation Nightjets each have two seating carriages, three couchette carriages and two sleeping carriages with a maximum of 254 seats. One of the seating carriages also has six bicycle stands and storage facilities for luggage, baby carriages and sports equipment. According to the press release, over 700 million euros have been invested in the 33 new trains. “We will have 13 of these new trains in service by the end of 2024. Our clear goal is to double the number of passengers to 3 million by 2030,” explains Deputy ÖBB Regional Manager Josef Rojak.
ÖBB is also highlighting technical improvements, such as free Wi-Fi, passenger information systems in all carriages, USB and inductive charging options for electronic devices and new windows that are permeable to mobile communications to improve reception on the journey. In addition, all coaches are equipped with video surveillance and access is controlled by an electronic system with NFC cards.
New Generation Nightjet: What It Looks Like In The Carriages
The most luxurious accommodation option is offered by the “comfort plus sleeping car”. These compartments have two beds, one above the other, and seating for working, reading or eating.
There is also a private WC and shower in the cabin. The compartment can be booked for 1-2 people.
Compartments in the “sleeping car comfort” are also suitable for 1-2 people and have a private sanitary area and seating. The price of tickets depends on the occupancy rate, duration of travel and time of booking. Sleeping car seats start at 150 euros.
The “Mini Cabin”, on the other hand, is ideal for solo travelers. A compartment has several sleeping pods that can be closed, offering plenty of privacy. Shoes and hand luggage can be stowed in adjacent lockers. There are also additional storage options and a folding table with a mirror.
According to rail influencer Simply_Railway, there is also a wireless charging station. The lights can be controlled via a control panel, train attendants can be called and they indicate whether toilets are free. Prices for “Mini Cabin” seats start at 75 euros.
The “Comfort couchette coach” has 4-seater compartments for families and travel groups. Seats are available from 60 euros and correspond to those of the Nightjets currently in operation.
