This year the festival is taking place at the salubrious Lido Cinemas Rooftop on the 28th November, 2015 and you will be treated to a selection of short films focused on the global effort to combat wrongful laws and stigma around HIV. Not only that, this is a great opportunity to mingle with great people, pioneers and advocates of HIV issues in Australia. It is destined to be a really special event!
Proudly supported by Living Positive Victoria, HIV Justice Network and the Victorian AIDS Council, the 2015 HIV Outrage Justice Film Festival is curated by Daniel Brace and features three shorts:
– Transmission: an intergenerational journey about HIV – 18 min version of the full documentary Transmission with new footage incorporating material from a youth perspective
– Consent – The Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network has been exploring the implications of using sexual assault law to prosecute HIV non-disclosure cases, given the marked differences between the types of conduct that are typically referred to as sexual assault (including rape) and HIV non-disclosure cases. This analysis is demonstrating that the use of sexual assault law in the HIV non-disclosure context – where the sexual activity is consensual other than the non-disclosure – is a poor fit and can ultimately have a detrimental impact on sexual assault law as a tool to advance gender equality and renounce gender-based violence.
– Inside The Box – A fictional short set to test your ideas on confronting HIV injustice and stigma in the modern world.
