Listen: ‘California Winter’ by The Bad Dreamers

Los Angeles-based THE BAD DREAMERS – the new wave project from Grammy-nominated producer, songwriter, and filmmaker David Schuler – has shared its new single “California Winter,” now available for streaming & purchase on Spotify, Apple Music, and iTunes. The track will be featured on The Bad Dreamers’ debut full-length album Songs About People Including Myself, out on October 25th. The new single premiered exclusively at Earmilk, who calls it “a triumph not to be missed.”

After years of writing and producing songs with artists like P!nkJohn LegendNew Politics and many others, David Schuler stumbled into a bit of unexpected inspiration which lead to The Bad Dreamers. He needed music for his new short film The Offer, and began to write songs for it. The result was a flood of inspiration, so he chose to keep writing and record an album. Musically, The Bad Dreamers have a synthwave-meets-indie-pop sound drawing bits and pieces from 80s staples like Tears for Fears, Prince, Depeche Mode, and others, while tapping into current indie-pop soundscapes a la St. Lucia and The 1975.

“‘California Winter’ is probably my favourite song on the record,” explains Schuler. “I wrote it last December (2017). It’s a strange time of year to be living in Los Angeles; the city assumes a strange kind of ‘calm’ and it’s the only time of year that I get the sense that anyone actually leaves, as if it plays mistress to the other cities so many of the residents actually call home. The song represents the feeling of losing something you may have never even had.”

In addition to releasing new music, The Bad Dreamers have announced a stretch of East Coast & Texas tour dates with retrowave heavyweights FM-84, all of which can be found below.
