Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower’ Adaptation Headed To TV Through Netflix?

The-Dark-TowerRON HOWARD (Rush, The Dilemma, Angels & Demons) has long tried to get Stephen King’s THE DARK TOWER adapted for film. The original idea for the book series was 3 films and 2 television series to tell the massive scoped fantasy epic. (A Film then a series then a film then a series then a final film)

The project was originally at Universal who, after concerns over the ballooning budget, passed on it in 2011. Then it got shopped to Warner Bros (who own HBO) who ummed and ahhed on it for a while and cut it loose too. It even had Javier Bardem and Russell Crowe attached to it at various stages.. Man, it got so close to fruition but just couldn’t get there.

In steps NETFLIX boss Ted Sarandos who told Stuff he has been in talks with Ron Howard on possibly developing the entire project for television. He told Stuff:

I spoke to Ron about it, actually. The last time we talked about it the thing was being kicked about HBO – but it’s no longer there. Once Arrested Development gets through we’ll keep talking about it.

NETFLIX are very much in the business of reviving old classics, the aforementioned ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT is about to release and there’s talk of JERICHO, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, FIREFLY and even TWIN PEAKS being bandied about.

We’ll keep you posted!
