With an expected U.S. opening weekend of $135m+ this is, by far, the highest grossing opening of the franchise. If Mission: Impossible – Fallout can open to that and, by the law of averages against the franchise with the international result account for roughly 66% of the take, that flags life potential at the $300m domestic and $880m+ global.
It puts the film 141% up on Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation‘s $56m opening weekend, and 29.14% up on the its global cume of $683m. Anywho, any which way you look at it, Fallout is going to be the biggest in the series history and that’s something to be amazed about considering the franchise is 22 years old!
It will also represent the single biggest opening weekend for Tom Cruise in his entire career as top billing, absolutely shattering record holder War of the Worlds‘ $64.9m opening weekend by 107%.
It also marks director Christopher McQuarrie’s highest opening behind his record holder of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.
