Listen: ‘Love Nobody’ by Reija Lee

Reija Lee has cemented herself within the electronic music world as one half of the duo Kito & Reija Lee and as the queen of EDM features having worked with the likes of Zeds Dead, Paces, Metrik, Fred V & Grafix and Shockone. Reija has also transcended genres having been sampled by urban heavyweights such as Outkast’s Big Boi, Trinidad James and T.I.
Signed to Diplo’s label Mad Decent, Kito & Reija Lee’s breakout hit ‘Sweet Talk’ hit No.1 on the US iTunes Dance charts and was the anthem used in Victoria’s Secret 2013 Spring/Summer campaign throughout the North America. Having released EPs on Mad Decent and Ultra Music, extensive touring of the US, Australia and New Zealand…the Kito & Reija Lee project was laid to rest in 2015.
2017 saw Reija Lee’s resurgence into dance music with a triple J addition and a national tour for the single ‘A Dark Machine’ with her older brother Shockone; the release of ‘Blood Brother’ – her collaboration with Canadian duo Zeds Dead and Diskord along with appearances on 360’s new album ‘Vintage Modern’.

But the time has arrived for Reija to head out on her own.

Her debut single ‘Love Nobody’ (premiered on triple j’s Good Nights earlier this week) reveals her passion for 80s synth-pop and nostalgia laden melodies taking inspiration from classics like Kate Bush and Tears for Fears.

‘Love Nobody’ was a collaborative effort alongside Melbourne hit maker Styalz Fuego (Illy, Peking Duk, The Knocks, Seth Sentry):

“Working with Styalz was like sitting down in the studio with an old friend even though you’ve never met. You’re both on the exact same wave length, and your individual ideas gel to form one little slice of magic. That’s the only way I can describe the day we wrote Love Nobody.”

A welcome departure from her usual sound, ‘Love Nobody’ is a polished blend of nostalgia and freshness, topped off with soft, silky vocals and a melody that will stick in your head for days.

“Love Nobody is kind of a self love anthem. I’ve written a lot of songs, and a lot of love songs at that, but never one for myself. For everyone who needs a bit of self-love, this one’s for you. (And me).” says Reija on the subject matter of the dreamy hit.

This is only the beginning of Reija’s new neon soaked chapter with promises of a larger body of work and live dates in the coming months. Welcome to the upside down.
