In Ye Olde Sydney Towne for Dave Rogers, aka Moon Brain, and his new spacial groove cut Beginning.
After fronting and touring with alt/rock act Nantes for five years and releasing two EPs and an album, which delivered indie hits “Fly”, “Unsatisfy” and “Drones”, David Rogers returns with new project MOON BRAIN and a debut mini-album in tow.
After Nantes decided to take a break at the end of 2015, Rogers began work on MOON BRAIN last year with Simon Todkill at Sydney’s 301 Studios. Taking over multiple roles as songwriter, producer, vocalist and player of most of the instrumentation on the mini-album, Rogers called on old friend Jonathan Boulet to provide drums for the tracks.
Following completion of recording in Sydney, the tracks were mixed in part by Tony Doogan at Mogwai’s Castle of Doom in Scotland and by Todkill in London.
The first single and first track “Pliskin”, is a classic Rogers’ anthem, complete with soaring guitars hooks and waves of analog synthesiser with a nod to European synth heroes Apparat and Air. Six tracks follow including the cascading “Chronicle”, the epic “Lost Your Mind” and the pulsating journey of “Beginning”.
With MOON BRAIN’s debut, Rogers displays once again his huge appetite for creating songs full of dynamics and finely crafted layers of sounds.
