Between Now and Forever drops a blisteringly, precision metal experience with their stunning new E.P. Burdens. A hugely impressive, supremely polished entree into a formidable musical talent.
There’s no doubt that this brotherhood of talented lads from New York know what they’re doing and have the technique to match the powerful progressive metal on show here. From the mood setting introduction of Hell Like Home, to the blistering percussive riff laden title track Burdens, the E.P. is drenched in atmosphere and some of the most impressively polished production you’ll hear on an independent release all year.
Too Far Gone comes at you at a rapid, break neck pace without ever descending into a sonic mess. It’s tough, melodically aggressive, and punchingly powerful stuff. Spit You Out furthers propels the you along with a ferocious fast paced double bass drum pedal layered with some unexpected and instantly engaging emotionally driven riff work. My Sanity is ripping 3 minute cut of pristine energetic metal. Coma State opens with an atmospheric sombre before becoming something more exploratory and epic.
If there is only one criticism I can make it’s simply this: it’s too short. I wanted to stay here for quadruple the time and, if there’s any band in the metal scene that deserves to break out, these boys have definitely earned their shot with this effort.
