If you were to ever crown someone as the next big thing in Australia, songstress Belle Harvey is most definitely worthy of the title. In the lead up to her debut album Something of Myself, the musician has dropped her new track Crescent City.
|With over a decade performing under a handful of different acts — opening for artists such as The Waifs, John Butler Trio, Clare Bowditch and even Diesel — this once upon a time SES (State Emergency Service) member Belle Harvey, who hails from the far reaching parts of Australia (Perth) is making marks in the Australian Americana / Alt-Country scene.
Belle Harvey had signalled that her debut Album ’Something of Myself’ (co-written and produced by Bill Chambers) was coming when she first released single ‘Bridges Burn’ in 2016, around the same time that she nominated for Best Country Act for the WAM (Western Australian Music) awards.
Earlier this year she followed up that single with ‘Drive’ with her first film clip and toured across NSW, VIC, SA and WA.
Now, the successfully crowdfunded album has a release date, September 22nd and as a precursor to it all she is releasing the beautifully crafted track ‘Crescent City’.
‘Crescent City’ is a sly, country/ blues track forefronting some Tom Waits-esque Trumpet, smooth overdriven guitar twang with some mellow tremolo, brushes on the kit, and of course Belle’s cunning vocal chants. Harveyhas stated:
“I originally wrote this song on the bass, everything else just evolved from there. It had this real slinky, sexy vibe goin’ on. Bill Chambers told me stories of New Orleans and how amazing it is, yet how precarious it can be at night, best to stay indoors and leave the night to the locals! I thought the music really suited the whole dangerous and exciting vibes of the stories he told, it was a fun song to create.”
To accompany and celebrate the release of the debut Album, Belle has a string of shows across the coast of Western Australia in October. Plans for a national tour at the beginning of 2018 are currently underway.
Belle Harvey is available for interview requests, and please contact Kick Push PR to organise media passes for any of her upcoming shows.
