Now, having found and settled into a new home, Maja is ready to release her soulful single ‘Wake Up And Find’ ahead of the release of the EP ‘Still Bleeding’ (Out August 4).
Her newest release ‘Wake Up And Find’ (official out July 6) (recorded at Airlock Studios by Konstantin Kersting) is an eloquently timeless, stripped-back spin on the late 60’s soul/R&B sound for the modern listener. Although written prior to her moving interstate, the meaning of the track seems to correlate all too well with what she has conquered in the last six months.
Maja has stated, “I wanted to say that everything would work out if you could just have trust in yourself but that there was still a lot of learning to go.”
This track is indeed an upbeat, feel good tune packed into a three minute bundle of motivating joy leaving you wanting more of Maja and that groove. A tasteful old country like vibe is produced by the electric guitar and piano intro that really allows Maja’s vocal capabilities to set that soul/R&B tone that channels the likes of Lesley Gore, The Supremes to Clairy Brown and The Banging Rackets.
Maja sets herself apart from these iconic artists whilst incorporating interesting developments within the song without the need of the traditional horn section typically found within this genre.
There is no doubt that this classically trained Serbian born singer-songwriter has proven her vocal prowess throughout all her previous releases and continues to show a maturity in song-writing well above her young age.
Fortunately for fans of Maja there is more to come with her EP that will have her playing intimate solo shows and festivals in September across VIC, NSW, SA and back in QLD (dates TBA).
