Yeah, it’s a bit weird to devote an entire post to a one sheet (that’s industry speak for a poster) but Xavier Dolan is one film maker that we here at The Lowdown Under simply can’t get enough of. Dolan’s eye., his flair for drama and his absolute resistance to conform to convention make the young artist one of the industry’s finest practitioners.
His last feature It’s Only the End of the World (Juste La Fin Du Monde) which just launched on home entertainment here is Oz by our good mates down at Transmission Films, is a powder keg of a film sporting spectacular performances from Marion Cotillard, Vincent Cassel, Lea Seydoux, Gaspard Ulliel, and Nathalie Baye. A melodrama that only Dolan can capture on screen, it’s really worth seeking out if you have the time.
His latest film The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, is the film maker’s first foray into English language story telling and check out the cast he has amassed for it: Jessica Chastain, Kit Harington, Taylor Kitsch, Kathy Bates, Jacob Tremblay, Susan Sarandon, Natalie Portman, Nicholas Hoult, and Thandie Newton.
Synopsis: A decade after the death of an American TV star, a young actor reminisces the written correspondence he shared with him, as well as the impact those letters had on both their lives.
