Listen: ‘The Cricketers’ by Fountaineer

Bendigo’s finest Fountaineer have dropped a new tack in the form of The Cricketers. Followoing on from the cracking first offering Words with Friends, The Cricketers is a bright, effervescent pop rock outing from this stunning local outfit!

Go, Aussie, Go!

Bendigo three-piece Fountaineer introduce their soaring new single ‘The Cricketers’ today. With its driving rhythms and dynamic chorus – the song is a clarion call to all the daytime dreamers and a winter anthem in the making.

Front man Anthony White explains the song further.

“Russell Drysdale’s painting ‘The Cricketers’ hung in our family home hallway ever since I can remember. I guess I felt every year, every moment of life up until now, has been played out in the shadows of Drysdale’s haunting and beguiling image. And like life growing up in a country town, things are not quite what they seem, and a game of cricket is not just a game of cricket. So while ‘The Cricketers’ is not really about sport at all, it’s about adolescence, relationships and the claustrophobic nature of small town life.”

The single was premiered earlier this week via triple j Good Nights. Categorized colorfully by host Linda Marigliano as “New wave, kraut drive, emo vocals, feel alive!”, the song received glowing reviews from excited listeners.

‘The Cricketers’ follows hot on the heels of single ‘Words With Friends’ which garnered national support on Triple J, FBi, RTR, RRR and 2SER and glowing reviews from the likes of The AU Review, Rolling Stone, The Musicand The Low Down Under.

Both ‘The Cricketers’ and ‘Words With Friends’ will feature on Fountaineer’s debut long player due for release later this year.
