It’s no new news that Warner Bros and Village Roadshow Pictures, the studios behind the original series, have toyed with the idea of returning to The Matrix franchise. Rumours have swirled for years around the subject that turned out to be just that, rumours. Something a little more concrete seems to be brewing over the topic as Warner Bros are intending to establish a ‘writers room’ to develop new stories in The Matrix universe. The original trilogy grossed $1.8bn in ticket sales, scored a spin-off anime flick and a very successful console game.
Deadline broke the story earlier today saying:
This is all in the exploratory phase and it’s unclear if the Wachowskis, then Andy and Larry but now Lily and Lana Wachowski, or the original cast will be involved, or producer Joel Silver. Right now, I hear the studio is likely to create a writers’ room of scribes to figure out the best possible way to relaunch the franchise.
