Hanks, Streep and Spielberg Unite for ‘The Post’

All we can hope for is that this won’t be The Terminal 2. Three of Hollywood’s perennial favourites are teaming up for a new journalism biopic based on the tried and true fascinating tale of the Pentagon Papers entitled The Post.

The Washington Post’s then editor Ben Bradlee and publisher Kay Graham famously revealed the documents to the American public that gave damning insight into the Vietnam War. The documents were leaked by Daniel Ellsberg, who was charged with 12 felony counts for the leaking.

Hanks will play Bradlee and Streep will assume duties as Graham.

Spielberg will direct the feature from a script written by Liz Hannah. Production start will be a way off yet as the director has Ready Player One to finish, is prepping The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara and then will shoot Indiana Jones 5.

This isn’t the first time this story has been told. 2003’s The Pentagon Papers starred James Spader and Claire Forlani explored the topic from the point of view of a Defense worker who discovers deliberating fabricated documents used by the U.S. Government to justify the war.
