Take this with a grain of salt even though the bloggosphere is going mental over it. THR have reported that Disney is looking to reboot the Tron franchise with Jared Leto (Suicide Squad, The Dallas Buyers Club) circling a lead role and producing credit on the film.
There already was a planned 3rd film, Tron: Ascension, that Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) was touted to make but that was scrapped permanently in 2015. 2010’s Tron: Legacy cost $170m to produce (before publicity and advertising) and earned $400m globally.
About the reboot concept THR says:
Sources say this new project is not a direct sequel and is being built out of the source code of the deleted Tron 3 script. Leto would play a character named Ares, who has not appeared on screen before but was a key player in that script.
We will see, people, we will see….
