Listen: ‘I Ran Through The Dark (To The Beat Of My Heart)’ by Nadine Khouri

Heading to the U.K. one of the most soulful and emotively melodic new artists to emerge in 2017 – the luminous Nadine Khouri. Ahead of the release of her debut album The Salted Air, the lead single has surfaced in the form of I Ran Through The Dark (To The Beat Of My Heart). Haunting, evocative and an ethereal vocal all come together beautifully here for a gorgeous new track that’s well worth your time!

R2 – 5 Star Review –  “…a fascinating musical tapestry, held together by her extraordinary voice”

MOJO – 4 Star Review  – “A thing of dark, possessed beauty”

Nadine Khouri is set to release her debut album ‘The Salted Air’ through her own label, One Flash Records on February 24th 2017.

Confirmed as one of Rough Trade’s albums of the month for January, ‘The Salted Air’ will be released on CD, Vinyl and digital download, with an opaque cream vinyl format (250 only) available exclusively through Rough Trade Shops.

Nadine Khouri is a musician and songwriter currently based in London.  Influenced by dream-pop, moody soundtracks and spoken-word, her sound has been described as a “music born of perennial outsider-status.”

Recorded live with legendary producer John Parish (PJ Harvey, Giant Sand) at Toybox Studios in his hometown Bristol, her debut album ‘The Salted Air’ is a haunting and atmospheric collection of poetic meditations on loss and transformation.

Khouri’s singular voice soars above droning organ, pulsating shakers, and an occasional choir of male voices, creating an intimate self-contained world, reminiscent of Stina Nordenstam & Mazzy Star in their heyday.  Pumping harmoniums meld into reverb-drenched electric guitar, while Khouri’s languid voice offers a dream-like incantation set against a beating Moroccan tar on ‘Broken Star’. An esoteric thread runs throughout the album, notably on ‘Shake it like a Shaman’ (a tribute to the late Jeff Buckley).  The album also features guest contributions from Parish, Irish singer-songwriter Adrian Crowley, violinist Emma Smith (James Yorkston, Hot Chip) alongside a core band assembled by Khouri, including J Allen (keys, BVs)  Huw Bennett (double-bass) Ruban Byrne (electric guitar, BVs) Jean-Marc Butty (drums) and Florian Tanant (piano.)

A first track You Got A Fire was self-released as a digital download with an accompanying video directed by music photographer Steve Gullick.

The track was featured on God is in the TV as ‘Track of the Day’ and received coverage in Noisey/Vice, Le Cargo! & more, with Khouri featured as a main ‘Rising Artist’ to watch in MOJO magazine & included in Q’s Choice Cuts ‘Tips Of The Month’.
