It’s been 9 years, yes 9 years, since Liv Tyler faced off with the masked wearing psycho nuts in the way-better-than-it-had-any-right-to-be horror flick The Strangers back in 2008. The film, which cost $9m to produce, went off and grossed $82m at the box office.
Sequel talk started way back then and the film’s original writer/director Bryan Bertino drafted the screenplay for part two. Over the years Liv Tyler was scheduled to reprise her role in the sequel, but the days they have slipped by and her participation may be less of a certainty.
What is certain, however, is that Bertino won’t be directing the sequel as that job has been given to Johannes Roberts (The Other Side of the Door). Bertino is still the screenwriter for part two which:
“follows a family whose road trip takes a turn when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park and after the power goes out they decide to hunker down for the night in a borrowed trailer. Under the cover of darkness three familiar masked psychopaths pay them a visit to test their every limit.”
BLOOM are selling the project at the European Film Market for international distribution and production will get underway later this year.
