It’s a Monday, it’s the eve of the U.S. election and we need to be reminded that through all the muckraking and ugliness that election campaign has brought, it doesn’t represent the true creative beating heart of the country. So I hand over to the stunning Utah quartet The Brocks and their scintillating new track HLYWD to kick start the week in cracking fashion. CRANK IT, PEOPLE!
Utah based indie-electronic four piece THE BROCKS have released their new single “HLYWD,” which follows the success of ‘Going Nowhere,’ released earlier in 2016. Both tracks were co-produced by world-renowned DJ/producer Kaskade and released on his label, Arkade. Beautiful Buzzz refers to “HLYWD” as “delicious,” which is now available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud, and other digital platforms.
The Brocks are composed of Dane Brock (lead vocals, synths) Christian Darais (drums, sequencing), Morgan Ence (guitar, sampling) and Ryan King (bass, bass synth). Their genre-spanning sound is heard in the polished production of their recorded songs and seen in their live performances, which have been compared to M83, Empire of the Sun, Phoenix, and Miike Snow. The band was first heard outside the local scene on a collaboration with Grammy-nominated DJ Kaskade, which was premiered at EDC Las Vegas in 2014. They have built steady steam through a series of high-profile commercial placements and explosive shows. Summer 2016 saw the release of their single titled “Going Nowhere”, via Arkade Records, which was extremely well received.
“’HLYWD’ was written from a place of feeling tired of being told what to want and feel,” the band explains. “So much of what comes out of Hollywood pushes what is “cool” or ‘normal,’ and this is about wanting to break free of that.”
