The casting of comic book heroes continues as Marvel’s Doctor Strange finally lands its leading man in Benedict Cumberbatch. The role, which circled Joaquin Phoenix and Jared Leto for a time, has finally inked the British star to work under director Scott Derrickson.
Doctor Stephen Strange is a celebrated neurosurgeon who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the world of magic and becomes a superior force for good.
Marvel’s chief Kevin Feige told The Wrap: “Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”
