Oz Weekend Box Office Round Up Nov 20 – 23, 2014

Exactly like the rest of the planet The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One (574 screens) stormed the box office to deliver the single highest grossing opening weekend of 2014 with $11.888m for the 4 days.  That’s a whopping $20,711 screen average, a number normally reserved for limited release Indian blockbuster releases and not seen so much in mega-wide releases. As expected Katniss and the gang smacked pretty much everything in its path with only (and impressively) Interstellar holding up against it. With a big opening weekend gross like that, you can expect this puppy to fall 60%+ next weekend but that won’t stop the movie from grossing somewhere in the range of $25-$30m nationally before it finishes up!

Interstellar (498 screens) slipped 42% week on week to gross $2.18m for its 3rd weekend. It’s a fantastic hold against the Mockingjay juggernaut and the film now sits on $13.031m domestically. Cruising for $19m finish.

The Drop (45 screens) took the top spot for the limited calendar in its 2nd weekend with a modest $102,005. Nothing in the limited locations did any business as nearly all of them were playing The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One and Interstellar and therefore no room or cut through for anything else.

The Dark Horse (35 screens) opens softly with $54,270 on an alarmingly low $1,551 per screen average.

In Cinemas Thursday November 27, 2014 – Nightcrawler, Men Women & Children, Particle Fever, Jimmy’s Hall, Fat Pizza Vs Housos, Serena, The One I Love, Royal Opera: I Due Forscari
