X-Men’s ‘Gambit’ Spin Off Moves Ahead With Channing Tatum

Arguably the coolest of the X-Men characters (though I’ll probably get shot for saying that), Gambit is set to become a stand alone feature for Fox with current it-boy Channing Tatum in the lead. He first appeared very briefly in  2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine with Taylor Kitsch in the role and rumours of a spin off film had abounded ever since. When Channing Tatum took interest recently, the project heated up and deadline has reported that the film is now moving forward with Joshua Zetumer (Robocop) hired to write the film. Zetumer will be working off a treatment written by Gambit character co-creator Chris Claremont.

Gambit aka Remy Etienne LeBeau aka Robert Lord aka Le Diable Blanc (The White Devil) is a mutant whose gifts include the ability to manipulate and control kinetic energy and hypnotism. He is alo a master a bojitsu and savate. He’s also noted for his card throwing and rarely seen with out his lucky deck.  He’s born in New Orleans, Louisiana and sports a thick Cajun accent. In the X-Men lore his major love interest is none other than Rogue – even though he is quite widely recognised as a ladies man with a questionable past (he was a professional thief and had links to Mister Sinister). He is a member of the X-Men and first appeared in the series in 1990.

Now, can Tatum pull off a Cajun accent? Can we expect a Tatum cameo in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse to set him up?

No production start or release date is set as yet and we’ll keep you posted on developments.
