007 SKYFALL opened this week in the U.K. and this 23rd outing is smashing box office records all over the place there. The film is shaping up to garner a £20 million opening weekend – which will make the film the highest grossing opening weekend of all time in that country – and it’s also smashed opening weekend performances of all the previous Bond films. To give you an idea of the global potential gross of the Daniel Craig led Bond flick here’s some comparatives:
CASINO ROYALE – (2006) – UK Opening Weekend – £13.37m (US$21.53m) – Lifetime Global Gross – US$594m
QUANTUM OF SOLACE – (2008) – UK Opening Weekend – £15.38m (US$24.77m) – Lifetime Global Gross – US$586m
SKYFALL – (2012) – UK Opening Weekend – £20m (US$32.16m) – Lifetime Global Gross Expectation – US$820m
(Based on the performances of the UK opening weekends in relation to their global grosses, UK Opening Weekends account for 3.92% of the global grosses on the Daniel Craig led Bond Films. My thanks to Imdb & Deadline for the figures)
Seems like a big big jump but also remember this Bond is going into IMAX and the groundswell of positivity from critics and audiences alike could easily get the film there!
