I’d already been saying Universal have been having a great year – well the record books got opened this week as the oldest studio on the block surpassed its 2008 record of $1.127bn US domestic gross and has ticked over $1.128bn. The biggest king hitter for them was, of course, TED ($217.8m US) which is a worldwide gargantuan smash that noone in their wildest dreams could’ve seen that result coming. Add to that the hits of THE BOURNE LEGACY, DR SUESS’ THE LORAX, AMERICAN PIE REUNION, SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN and SAFE HOUSE – Universal has had a very, very good year. And it ain’t over yet…
They’ve still got: THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS, PITCH PERFECT, LES MISERABLES, MENTAL (Aus) & THIS IS 40 up their sleeves as well!
My thanks to Variety for the stats.
CONGRATULATIONS UNIVERSAL PICTURES – WHAT A WAY TO SEE IN YOUR 100TH YEAR!
