Probably the hottest flick to play at Telluride Film Festival is Ben Affleck’s 3rd feature as director – ARGO. Expect it to feature heavily in Oscars races for 2013 and with a cast like that you know you’re up for something good!
Here’s some excerpts from early reviews and the trailer as well (thanks Collider for the review snippets):
The Playlist: “Affleck directs with screw-tightening efficiency that would make Michael Mann proud. Multiple Oscar nominations are in order as this movie surges to the top of the current Oscar contenders list.”
HitFix: “With one of the better ensembles in recent memory, Affleck purposely gives his cast room to shine while not diminishing the risks Mendez took. Arkin plays the schmaltzy producer with enough heart to make him three-dimensional and Cranston finally gets a supporting role he can really sink his teeth into.”
LA Times: “Two years ago, a prominent Oscar voter left the Telluride Film Festival’s world premiere screening of “The King’s Speech” and said with certainty that the film would be shortlisted for best picture. At the festival this past weekend, that same voter issued a new prediction: Ben Affleck’s “Argo” will be among the finalists for the top Academy Award.”
THR: “Argo is a crackerjack political thriller told with intelligence, great period detail and a surprising amount of nutty humor for a serious look at the Iran hostage crisis of 1979-81. Proving even more than before that he’s a behind-the-camera force to be reckoned with, Ben Affleck tells a dense, multilayered yarn “based on a declassified true story” with confidence and finesse, while its unlikely Hollywood angle will make the hometown industry crowd feel proud of itself. From all points of view, this is one the major releases of the fall season.”
ARGO releases in AUSTRALIA on OCTOBER 25, 2012 through ROADSHOW FILMS
