Aza’s 2 Line Review – Maori Boy Genius – A Heartfelt & Moving Documentary About A Boy Defying His Cultural Expectations. All Politics Aside, This Is A Prime Example Of Why I Love Doco’s.

This could’ve been told in any creed, our subject in this instance happens to be Ngaa Rauuira Pumanawawhiti, a Maori 16 year old. He’s extremely intelligent and devoted to his people and we follow him through his 16th year as he tries to balance his surging academia against his cultural obligations. And what an insight it is – this is a ‘if you believe you can do it you can’ doco and its even more refreshing in that, even at 16, he has such mature views on New Zealand, his people and the country as a whole.

For film maker Pietra Brettkelly, this is a notice of a major documentarian on the rise. I really got a major kick out of this!
