That’s probably a bit harsh for me – it does have beautiful production design and it’s staged really well. But when you have a cast like this one – Billy Bob Thornton, Robert Duvall, Frances O’Connor, Kevin Bacon, John Hurt and Robert Patrick you’d think there’d be some pretty hefty drama here. But there just isn’t. This is a slow burn – the fire never gets lit. For a period piece (1950’s America) it’s handsome to look at but that’s about all.
