3D THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is, for me, the superior of all the recent spider films. This one has a really welcome level of sincerity which turns into a strong emotional core running through the film. A change to the bombastic rehashes of the Raimi sequels that the franchise so desperately needed – an honest heart to it.
Emma Stone is a star. There’s just something about her presence, even faux blonde, that just lights up the screen for me. The awkwardness of the burgeoning relationship between her and Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker is charming to watch. Even when tonally the film swings from comic book action to heavy burden drama (most of the time successfully) its the relationships that anchor the picture and in the hands of these seasoned pro’s such as Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Denis Leary and Rhys Ifans it just gives it that bit more weight and credibility.
All the action sequences are heavily digitised like its predecessors and it’s nicely handled – in that respect the film doesn’t tread much new ground but does everything it has with great style. The swinging sequences are really top notch.
Did I mention Emma Stone is in it? Its worth it just for her. Oh and yes Spider-man in lycra does sport a really great ass for all you admirers of the Garfield.
