The Amazing Spider-Man Smashes U.S. Midnight Figures To The Tune Of $7.5m! So What Does That Mean For Australia?

Kapow! That’s huge figures for a Monday Nigt Midnight screening! Things are certainly boding well for the films release in the States today! (Well tomorrow for them at the moment) Australia goes out today. SONY would have to be rapt with that result – that puts the film in the vicinity of a $20m+ opening day Stateside and if it can pull that off then there’s no excuse for the film not to take around the $125m+ opening weekend.

For Australia this means the SONY team will be hoping for a $12.5m+ opening 5 day weekend – which isn’t unattainable but for a Spider-Man picture here’s what the other guys did when they released:

SPIDER-MAN – 6 June 2002 – $13.004m Opening Weekend ($30.84m gross AUD)

SPIDER-MAN 2 – 1 July 2002 – $7.137m Opening Weekend ($24.4m gross AUD)

SPIDER-MAN 3 – 3 May 2007 – $9.51m Opening Weekend ($24.02m gross AUD)

Opening Weekend Daily Average SPIDER-MAN: $2.47m per day.

3D THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN should be able to gross $12.35m for the first 5 days based on the franchise averages. Though if you take into account the 3D element an upswing to get them over $12.5m for the 5 days is totally achievable! I’ve got a lifetime gross forecast of around $26m in Australia – and that would be a phenomenal result which the great team at SONY can certainly get!
