Aza’s 2 Line Review – The Smashing Pumpkins – Oceania – A Spectacular Return To Form. The Best Corgan Effort Since Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness

Aza’s one big Pumpkinhead. I am. I’ve loved this band since I first heard Siamese Dream back in ’92 then backtracked to Gish and been with them ever since. Well more ‘him’ I guess than them. There’s so much fun, big band rock here that I haven’t been able to stop listening to it. Yeah it’s noisy, yeah its chock full of Corgan pomp lyrics (a massive part of its charm) and added bonuses in some choral sequences. The whole album is so upbeat and bright yet it still showcases the shimmering brilliance that made Corgan’s noises back in the 90’s so influential.

This is the next logical step from the oddly exercised TEARGARDEN BY KALEIDESCOPE and the production on this towers above that series of songs. Best of all this is an album that will sound awesome live!

Welcome back to atmospheric alt rock – OCEANIA has arrived. This is a magical album, especially if you’ve been jaded by the ZEITGEIST era, come on back and enjoy a re-invigorated SMASHING PUMPKINS!
