Aza’s 2 Line Review – Warrior (2011) – In A Word. Unmissable!

Wow. I mean really, Wow! WARRIOR is a knockout – pardon the pun. This is one the most emotionally engaging, wholly satisfying and totally engrossing films I’ve seen in ages. Releasing in the shadow of the Oscar winning THE FIGHTER, WARRIOR surpasses that film (which I also think rocks) in pretty much every category.

The story of WARRIOR may tow the sports drama narrative line but it’s the dynamics of 3 actors in their absolute prime that drive the film. Joel Edgerton has never been better – NEVER – he is outstanding in this & Tom Hardy gives Tommy his broken heart with so much honesty and sincerity that its criminal the pair of them weren’t nominated for Oscars. Nick Nolte is pitch perfect as a father trying to wade his way through the damage he’s caused and deserves every accolade thrown his way for it.

This is about a Mixed Martial Arts Tournament and I was in tears for the last 10 minutes of the film. But not for the reasons you might assume – this is a triumph and shouldn’t be missed. The fight choreography is bone crunchingly powerful but that’s complemented by the sheer heart the film has.

Do yourself a favour and see WARRIOR – it’s criminal this film wasn’t a box office giant!
