Aussie Box Office Weekend Round Up – April 26 – April 29, 2012

This was the weekend that THE AVENGERS came out a kaboshed everything! In it’s 5 day release the film ticked on just on $91.3m at the Aussie box office and $178.4m internationally. The film hasn’t even opened in the U.S. yet, that’s this Friday and I wouldn’t be surprised if it has a $100m opening weekend. It deserves it too – the film rocks!

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for everything else though, THE LUCKY ONE held second with another $1.2m into the kitty, another solid Nicholas Sparks film in the Aussie market place should hit around $6.5m-$7m before it finishes up. The most resilient film of the year THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL rounds out the top 3with $797k to bring its gargantuan haul to $18.04m. What a success that film has been!

On the new release front E-One/Hopscotch’s Aussie Drama WISH YOU WERE HERE was solid on a 42 print release with $329k into the box with relative newcomer Umbrella Entertainments THE WAY really scoring a solid take on 35 prints with $201k. Icon’s limited french drama CAFE DE FLORE earned modest results, accompanied with walls of great reviews, on 19 prints with $82k.
