Well there ain’t no stopping hungry kids killing each other in the States or here in Australia as THE HUNGER GAMES continues its box office dominance. With over a quarter of a billion dollars in ticket sales in the States alone, this is the film that’s made LIONSGATE a true major studio.
What’s even more impressive is that THE HUNGER GAMES went up against a sequel in WRATH OF THE TITANS and a Julia Roberts vehicle MIRROR MIRROR and still managed to hold its own.
Australia in particular faired strongly with the release of the box office giant DR SUESS’ THE LORAX as well as the aforementioned films for the Easter School Holidays.
THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL continues it’s golden run at the Australian box office as it remains in #2 for the 2nd weekend of release again – raking in another $2.7m and bringing its total to $8m – which is out and out a staggering achievement and one to cheer about. You can never discount the power of a broad, older femme skew comedy in the Aussie market place.
As Easter kicks in you can expect to see DR SUESS’ THE LORAX to really start charging from today, the mighty THE HUNGER GAMES will hold through and with soon to release entries like THE PIRATES! BAND OF MISFITS, BATTLESHIP, AMERICAN PIE; REUNION, 3D TITANIC and STREETDANCE 2 all about to roll out in cinemas in the next fortnight it’s a good time to be in the cinema business.
