‘The Grey’ Takes Out The Top Spot In The U.S.

Joe Carnahan’s survival tale of rig workers facing off against a pack of ravenous wolves has landed at the top of the U.S. Box Office on it’s opening weekend scoring a very impressive $20m+ weekend (projected). Going out against two other wide releases in Katherine Heigl starrer ‘One For The Money’ and Sam Worthington thriller ‘Man On A Ledge’, ‘The Grey’ has forged its own dominating stake to take the #1 spot for the week.

Deadline reports that: Grosses for both One For the Money and Man On A Ledge (Were affected by) opening weekend’s Groupon/Living Social discounted movie ticket deals. Lionsgate/Summit don’t collect much of that money. Instead exhibitors get the lions share. And that discount prevented the Marcus Theatre chain from playing One For The Money in the midwest.”
