Rob Marshall Signs On To Direct Sondheims ‘Into The Woods’ For Disney

If you don’t know who Rob Marshall is then I’ll give you a quick flick that you might know in 2002’s Best Picture Oscar Winner Chicago. That was his first directorial effort! Since then he’s gone onto direct Memoirs Of A Geisha, Nine and last years Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Since the worldwide smash that was the $1b+ box office bonanza Pirates, Mr. Marshall has lined himself up a few new directing gigs – The remake of the comedy The Thin Man, Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 (both with Johnny Depp) and the just announced musical Into The Woods – Stephen Sondheim’s classic!

James Lapine, who co-wrote the musical with Sondheim, is currently working on the new script THR reports and that Sondheim might be involved to contribute new songs to the film.

Into The Woods originated as a 1980’s broadway show that encompassed several fairy tale characters interwoven into the lives of a baker and his wife trying to reverse a curse so they have children.
