Man 1981 was a great year for cinema when you look back and you find classics like this. Back when Burt Reynolds was one of the biggest stars in the world and Farrah Fawcett was the hottest chicklet to ever chuckle chick chick. (I don’t even know what that means but hey). But these multicaster action comedies are a rare breed, in fact the last attempt at one was RAT RACE back in 2001 and may we never speak of it again.
Well back in February of this year Collider reported that Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes 1 & 2) was linked to a reboot of the show and now that notion is gathering momentum where today the same source has said that Mr Ritchie wants his old SNATCH buddy BRAD PITT to take the hot seat of the film which will boast a host of stars and relocate to Europe for it’s escapades.
Also waiting in the wings over at FOX is Shawn Levy who’d like to givve it a crack with his old NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 1 & 2 buddy Ben Stiller in the lead.
The article has also said that GM (General Motors) is in discussions to co-finance the project.
Car based films have always found a strong home in the cinema – look at the enduring spectacular performances of the FAST & THE FURIOUS franchise, DRIVE and the soon to shoot MAD MAX 4: FURY ROAD to whet your appetite.
Check out the old trailer for a nostalgia hit cause it is so worth it and I’ll keep you posted with updates on this project. Thanks to collider for the heads up.
